D&D News January 2012

We thought we would start the new year with a short D&D newsletter. To the many people who sent us best wishes of the Christmas season: very many thanks. May we wish all our friends a happy and successful 2012.

We had a busy 2011 and were privileged to work with a wide variety of people and organisations trying to help their organisations improve, including visiting a number of prestigious locations. We already have some work scheduled through the year, and hope that things look favourable for you.

Maria's Market Café - we catch up with a D&D Award Winner

One lunchtime recently we found ourselves near Borough Market with a short break between meetings. So we popped into the Market to see Maria, and of course to have the firm's belated Christmas lunch at her Café. We were delighted to hear that she had a busy holiday season. Indeed, Dave had visited the market with his family on Christmas Eve and he saw just how many customers there had been at Maria's - he couldn't even get close to wish her the compliments of the season. So he gave her belated New Year greetings, captured for posterity by Derek!

Dave distracting Maria from her work!

Apparently a TV programme about Borough Market really increased interest in it and drew more people in to look around . It is great to hear that the home of many long-standing traders is maintaining its popularity as a great place to buy quality food. New shops/stalls have come into the Market, but we certainly hope that there is a fusion of the old and new and that the tradition is retained: people like Maria, and her family before her, have helped to make the market what it is.

More modest photographic success for Derek

Those of you still trying to make head or tail of Derek's photograph that did well in his local Camera Club competitions last year (see Summer 2011 Newsletter) will no doubt be concerned that 2012 has started well for him photographically. A team comprising him and fellow members Karen Hilson and Nicola Le Prevost won Sevenoaks Camera Club's annual Challenge Competition with a set of photos depicting the theme of 'Angles' that were more 'off the wall' than his Quest last year!

Both ladies share Derek's sometimes imaginative (is this really the right word?!) take on photographs, and Karen runs her own video company as well, so the omens were good for an interesting entry, even if they were not successful. There was even a nice D&D link, as the concept they used was based on a photo that Derek took when on an R4E site visit last summer. Happily the enlightened judge thought they were the best panel of photos on the night. As there are six pictures in the set we just cannot spare the space to show them, so you are saved from having to look at them!
