D&D News: Phoenix Futures' Voyage of Recovery

We have just learned from Adele Duncan at our friends Phoenix Futures of an interesting project on which they embarking. Phoenix provides services for people with drug and alcohol problems. It operates in the community, in prisons and in residential settings. Some of you may remember that they were winners of the 2011 BQF Achievement Award for Leadership. We first worked with them on their Excellence aspirations in 2010 — see our newsletter item.

This summer they will sail the 80ft Tectona sail boat around Britain on a journey of 1,500 miles. The boat will be crewed by service users, supported by staff and professional crew. It will give personal development opportunities for those involved, and Phoenix will also study the impact of these sort of activities on recovery from drug and alcohol problems.

It sounds like an exciting project, and we're sure from our own experience of the Phoenix people that it will be a big success. We've said we will promote it on our website and have included their video below.

If you want to learn more, including how you might get involved, there is further information on the Phoenix website. And you can make a donation direct via the Voyage of Recovery's JustGiving web page.
